ThingLink is introducing 5 new AI-powered features aimed at simplifying the content creation process.
This article covers:
- Access to AI features
- AI assistant tools for the image editor
- AI assistant tools for the scenario editor
For more ideas on how you can use AI tools for content creation on ThingLink, please see our blog.
Availability & access controls
AI tools are currently available to all users except students. Students do not have access to AI tools by default.
Controlling access to AI assistant tools
Organizational accounts (e.g. schools or paid corporate accounts with multiple users) have the option to disable AI assistant tools for all users.
If you have a school or university account, you have 3 options:
- Enable AI tools for all users,
- Enable AI tools for all users except students (default option),
- Disable AI tools for all users.
You can control access to AI tools by going to the Organization page, selecting the 'Settings' tab, scrolling down to AI features, and clicking the 'Edit' button:
Use AI to generate tags
When editing an image, 360° image, or video that does not have any tags yet, you will see a prompt in the top part of the screen asking if you need help with creating your first tags. Click the blue Continue button, then enter a description of your project and click Continue again:
ThingLink will use AI to generate 5 short texts about the topic you describe, and then generate 5 tags based on these texts. You can then modify the tags by adding images, videos or changing the texts, or delete the ones that don't suit your needs and add your own tags.
This tool is intended to let you get a quick start on your project, but it is also great for demonstrating how tags work to your colleagues or students who have not used ThingLink yet.
AI assistant tools for the scenario editor
There are 3 main AI assistant tools available in the scenario editor:
- 'Generate questions' creates multiple-choice questions,
- 'Suggest branches' creates branching paths,
- 'Write a recap' generates a summary of the preceding text content.
You can access these tools whenever you are adding a new block:
All of these tools automatically use the text content of your scenario, but you can modify the text used by the AI tool or simply enter your own text.
You can read the description of each feature below, but we highly recommend experimenting with these tools. Remember that you can always use the 'Clone' feature to create a copy of your scenario where you can safely test the new tools without affecting your existing content.
Generate questions
You can use AI to generate multiple-choice questions based on the content of your scenario or the text you provide. Simply select the tool when adding a new block, then check what text it has selected and click the 'Create 5 questions' button. ThingLink will generate 5 multiple-choice question blocks with 4 options and usually 1 correct answer. You can always edit the question blocks if you would like to modify the questions or the answers available to your students.
Suggest branches
The 'Suggest branches' tool generates branching paths based on the content of your scenario or the text you provide. Select this tool when adding a new block, check the text it has selected and click the 'Suggest branches' button to continue:
Once the branches have been created, you can
Write a recap
The 'Write a recap' tool creates a text block with a summary of all preceding texts or the text you provide. Try using this tool after a series of text blocks or at the end of your branches to give your learners a quick summary of the content of each branch.
'Rewrite' tool for text blocks
You can also use AI tools for summarizing texts in your 'Text' blocks. When editing a 'Text' block, you will see a blue 'Rewrite' button. Simply click it, wait a few seconds, and you will get a shortened version of your text. You can then either save the changes or click the 'Cancel' button if you would like to revert them.
Limitations & troubleshooting
AI assistant tools for scenarios utilize only text from text blocks. Text from other block types (e.g. question blocks, the content of ThingLink scenes that are part of the scenario) and other types of content (e.g. images) are not utilized. When adding a new block using AI, the tool will take into account all texts that precede the block you are about to add.
All scenario blocks generated using AI have a purple 'AI' label added to them to help you easily differentiate between the content you've added yourself and the content created using AI assistant tools:
Occasionally, the AI tool might not be able to generate something based on your text and will return an error instead. If this happens, please close the popup window and try again. If the error persists after multiple attempts, please contact our team.
