There are several ways to register students and add them to your groups. All options start on the My Students page. Navigate to My Students from the top navigation bar. Choose Groups at left, then click the Add Users link next to a group.
Register Students via Invite Code
The invitation code method is for students that will register themselves. Each group has a unique invitation code that is entered at registration. Find each group's code in the Group list. Instruct your students to register at www.thinglink.com/edu, choose the Student persona, and enter the invitation code when prompted.
Invite Students by Email
This method is for students that already have ThingLink accounts. If your student already has a ThingLink account, enter the email associated with that account here. An invitation will be sent to their account so that next time they log in they will be able to accept your invitation. The invitation will not be sent to their email address.
Import Students from CSV Spreadsheet
This method creates student accounts en masse. Choose the Import from Excel option in the Add Users box. Fill the downloadable template with students' login emails, usernames, and passwords. Upload the CSV file and the accounts will be created. Students do not need to register themselves. They will be able to log in with the information from the spreadsheet.
Guidelines regarding the CSV:
1. It is recommended that you use the downloadable template instead of creating your own CSV. This will ensure that your sheet is formatted correctly. Download the template here.
2. Passwords must be at least 8 characters, include both letters and numbers, and not be too common (Ex: password1, ThingLink123, etc.)
3. Include a header row in your CSV. It is included in the template.
This method generates logins for students with just their name. Choose the Manual Creation option in the Add Users box. Enter a list of your students' names, one name per line. Keep in mind that all names must be unique. Click Create accounts and ThingLink will generate logins for these students. The login information will only be shown once! Print that page for your records. However, you will be able to change your students' passwords from the 'My students' - 'Users' tab.
Note: The provided logins are fairly complex for security reasons. We recommend that this method is only used when none of the other options will work for your class, due to the difficulty of using complex logins for students.
