This article describes different scene settings and customization options available in ThingLink's media editor. Explore the interactive image below for a quick overview or use the links below for a detailed description of each setting:
- Tag customization
- Info panel
- Guided mode and locked mode
- Tag sequence
- Floor plan
- Remove ThingLink logo
- Toggle control buttons
- Advanced settings for 360° content
Tag customization
The tag customization panel allows you to control the appearance of your tags, including colors, popup size, icon animations, and more.
Color and font customization
The color customization menu allows you to choose one of the preset color schemes or manually determine the colors of texts, popups and link button for text and media tags. In addition, you can change the font using inside the tags:
See this article for more information.
Disable tag animation
By default, all icons will slowly pulsate to help your viewers locate the tags & increase the engagement rate. You can disable the animation by toggling off the 'Disable animation' option.
Tag animation color will match the icon color. Custom icons will always use white pulsing animation.
Change tag popup size
You can choose between two different popup sizes for 'Text & media' tags - default and large. To enable large popups, simply toggle the 'Large popup window':
Disable video looping
By default, all videos you add to text and media tags will loop indefinitely. You can turn on this setting to disable video looping.
Large popup window
ThingLink automatically adjusts the size of the popup windows to different screen sizes. However, you can increase the size of the popup window by enabling the ‘Large popup window’ setting.
Note that the setting applies to text & media tags only.
Fit tag media
By default, the editor crops images and videos to fit 8:9 or 16:9 aspect ratios. 8:9 ratio is for media with a title or a link button, while 16:9 ratio is for plain media, media + description or extended media view.
To prevent your images and videos from being cropped, go to Settings -> Tag customization and use the 'Fit tag media' toggle.
Hover preview
ThingLink automatically shows a little preview of text and media tags when the viewer hovers over an icon. This helps the user understand what is behind the icon and encourages them to click to explore more.
You can disable this preview by toggling off the ‘Hover preview’ setting inside Settings -> Tag customization.
Info panel
The scene info panel allows you to display additional information about your scene or organization that will always be shown when the viewer loads the experience. It allows you to display text and additional links - check out the example below or see this page for more information.
Guided mode and locked mode
Guided mode and Locked mode are special viewing modes for your standard ThingLink media content that prompt (or require) the learner to view all tags in a pre-determined sequence. Toggle on Guided mode to enable it and highlight icons one by one. You will also see an option to enable Locked mode.
Check out this article for more information and examples.
Tag sequence
The tag sequence panel allows you to manually adjust the order in which tags are highlighted when using Guided mode or Locked mode, as well as the tag selection order for keyboard controls and the accessibility player.
Upload audio
The upload audio button allows you to upload a background audio track for the whole scene. Click the button to upload an audio file from your device or click the microphone button to record yourself.
See this article for more ways to add audio to your media projects.
Floor plan
If you are creating a tour, the floor plan panel allows you to add a floor plan or a minimap for your tour. See this article for more information and examples.

Follow the steps below to remove Thinglink branding shown in the lower right corner:
- In the editor, click the 'Settings' button on the left-side panel.
- Click on the ThingLink logo on the left-hand side to toggle it on or off.
Toggle control buttons
You can enable or disable different control buttons shown in the bottom-right corner:

- 'Related' button (tour list): if the scene is part of a tour, this button will show all other scenes and allows the viewer to quickly navigate between scenes
- VR mode button: opens content in VR mode
- Accessibility button: opens content in the accessibility player view.
- Language selection button: this button appears only if the content is translated into other languages, and it allows the viewer to select the language.
- Fullscreen button
- ThingLink logo
Simply go to the editor Settings and click on the icons on the left-hand side to enable or disable them:
Note that these are scene-level settings. In other words, if you are creating a tour you can disable or enable different control buttons for different scenes.
Advanced settings for 360° content
'Architectural mode' toggle allows you to switch between default and architectural mode (different field of view).
'Disable initial rotation': by default, all 360° images and videos rotate to let the viewer know that they are looking at a 360° content. The autorotation stops once the viewer interacts with the scene. Use this toggle to disable or re-enable the autorotation.
'Set initial direction' allows you to change the initial view direction by clicking and dragging the 360° image in the desired direction and then clicking on 'Set initial direction'. By clicking 'Reset initial direction' the view goes back to original direction.

What a beautiful exemplar photo this is!
Madeline Rehm the photo was taken from Pixabay. The website is pretty great for finding images and videos to use on ThingLink since their current license is rather lax, and there's a lot of great work by talented photographers.
Would it be possible to set the initial view for 360 images and videos?
Hello Paul, you can do this using the ''Set initial direction' setting. You can find it under Settings -> Advanced:
