ClassLink single sign-on (SSO) lets users access ThingLink directly from ClassLink LaunchPad without creating or remembering separate ThingLink credentials.
When ClassLink login is enabled, users who open ThingLink from ClassLink LaunchPad are automatically connected to your ThingLink organizational account. If they do not already have a ThingLink account, one is created for them and added to your license when they open ThingLink for the first time.
This integration uses just-in-time provisioning. Users are not added to ThingLink in advance, and ClassLink rosters, classes, courses, or groups are not synced to ThingLink.
ThingLink also uses ClassLink account data to determine whether the user should be assigned a Teacher or Student account.
Availability
ClassLink SSO is available for ThingLink organizational accounts.
To set up the integration, you need to be an administrator of your ThingLink organizational account. You also need administrator access to ClassLink to add and assign the ThingLink app in ClassLink LaunchPad.
How to set up ClassLink SSO
Summary: Add the ThingLink app in ClassLink LaunchPad and launch it to link your ClassLink account to your ThingLink administrator account. Then enable ClassLink login from Organization > Integrations in ThingLink and assign the app to your users in ClassLink.
Step-by-step:
- Log in to ClassLink LaunchPad with an administrator account.
- Open the ClassLink Management Console.
- Go to Applications and select Add & Assign Apps.
- Open the App Library, search for ThingLink, and add the app.
- At this stage, the app is added to your App Library but is not yet visible to users in LaunchPad.
- Assign the ThingLink app to yourself or a small test group.
- Open the ThingLink app from ClassLink LaunchPad. This should link your ClassLink account to your ThingLink account.
- In ThingLink, go to Organization > Integrations, then find 'ClassLink login' and click Enable:
- Go back to ClassLink and assign the ThingLink app to all users who should be able to access ThingLink.
Once this is done, users can open ThingLink from ClassLink LaunchPad and will be added to your ThingLink organization automatically when they access ThingLink for the first time.
Account matching and account types
ThingLink matches existing accounts based on the user’s email address. If a user already has a ThingLink account with the same email address, they will be connected to that account instead of creating a duplicate account.
ThingLink uses ClassLink account data to assign the user’s account type:
- Teachers, parents, and administrators are assigned Teacher accounts in ThingLink.
- Students are assigned Student accounts in ThingLink.
If a user is assigned the wrong account type, an organization administrator can update it from Organization > Users.
