Use the ThingLink XR app to open one project with a shortcode or browse multiple materials through an organization's landing page. Compatible media projects can also be downloaded for offline viewing on supported Meta Quest, PICO, and HTC VIVE headsets.
Before you start
- Install the ThingLink XR app on your headset. See the setup articles for Meta Quest, PICO, or HTC VIVE.
- Account sign-in requires a ThingLink email address and password. Third-party sign-in methods, such as Microsoft or Google, and single sign-on are not currently supported.
App controls
- Point the controller and press the trigger to select content or interface elements.
- Look around or use the thumbsticks to change direction and scroll through pages, playlists, or long text.
- Use 'Back to home' or 'Home' to exit an experience. On Meta Quest, the menu button on the left controller hides or shows the in-experience menu.
Viewing content
Once you launch the app, you will see the home screen. There are two main ways to view ThingLink content in the XR app:
- Enter a shortcode to view a single ThingLink media project or scenario.
- Open your organization's landing page by entering the landing page code or signing in to your account.
Open an experience with a shortcode
The 'Shortcode' option allows you to access a single ThingLink project by entering its VR shortcode.
- Open the ThingLink project on a computer or phone.
- Select 'Share' -> 'View in VR' -> 'Get short link'.
- In the XR app, select 'Shortcode' on the starting screen, enter the code, and select 'Start'.
Use shortcodes when you need to share a single media project or scenario.
Open your organization's landing page
Your organization's landing page acts as a content hub for the ThingLink XR app. Opening the landing page allows viewers to access materials published to the landing page, including scenarios, 360-degree content, and 2D content.
You can open the landing page in two ways:
- Select 'Organization ID' and enter the final part of your public landing page URL. For example, the ID for https://www.thinglink.com/o/creator is creator.
- Select 'Account' to sign in and view private content, assigned materials, or content available to all users in your organization.

Download content for offline viewing
You can download projects created with ThingLink's Media editor to view them offline or improve loading speeds in setups with slow internet connection.
- Publish the project to the landing page.
- Open the landing page in the app by signing in or entering the landing page ID.
- Select the cloud-shaped Download button on compatible content.
Downloaded projects load from the headset and remain available without an internet connection. Use the trashcan icon to remove them.
Offline download is currently available for compatible media projects only. Scenarios cannot be downloaded for offline use.
Supported content and limitations
The ThingLink XR app supports most ThingLink content and features, but some content types and settings are not supported or have known limitations in VR.
See the ThingLink XR supported and limitations article for a detailed list before sharing content with viewers.
