We’re excited to introduce Scenario Builder 2.0, an upgraded and more powerful tool for creating interactive scenarios. With new features and significant improvements over Scenario Builder 1.0, this version offers enhanced capabilities for building dynamic, engaging learning experiences.
The original Scenario Builder (now called Scenario Builder version 1.0) will remain available until the end of January 2025. We highly recommend switching to Scenario Builder 2.0.
In this article, you'll learn how to convert your existing scenarios from version 1.0 to version 2.0.

- The main differences between versions 1.0 and 2.0
- What happens after version 1.0 is deprecated
How to convert
Converting a scenario from version 1.0 to 2.0 creates a new, fully independent copy of your scenarios using the 2.0 version of the editor. The original scenario will be unaffected - if you shared it somewhere, it will continue to function without any interruptions.
To convert a scenario:
- Go to your ThingLink profile and open the 'Scenarios' tab
- Click the version selector ("Scenario builder (version 2.0) and select Version 1.0 from the drop-down menu
- Click on any scenario you've created, and click the 'Convert' button in the pop-up. Alternatively, hover over the scenario, click the three dots, and select 'Convert to 2.0':
Please note that interaction statistics are not carried over from version 1.0 to version 2.0.
The structure of converted scenarios may appear tangled since the 2.0 version of the editor uses a different visualization approach. However, this only affects the appearance of the scenario within the editor and won't affect the learners’ experience.
The main differences between Scenario Builder 1.0 and 2.0
Improved stability: the new version of the scenario builder is significantly more stable and allows you to create larger scenarios without issue. These improvements also allow us to develop more exciting features that would not be possible in 1.0
AI conversion tool: One of the core new features of Scenario Builder 2.0 is the ability to transform your existing training materials into interactive scenarios. Simply create a new scenario, click 'Create with AI', upload your existing training materials as a PDF file, and let our tools do their magic. Try it yourself or watch a quick overview here.
Fewer blocks: 'Goal' blocks are now a property of existing blocks and 'Jump' blocks are replaced with a dashed line.
Structure: The editor's layout has shifted from top-to-bottom to left-to-right flow. You can also add separate blocks that are not connected to other blocks.
Better mobile adaptation: scenarios created with the 2.0 version look better on mobile.
Scenario builder version 1.0 deprecation
Scenario Builder version 1.0 is set to be deprecated in February 2025. Here is what this means for your content:
- Starting February 1st, 2025, you will not be able to make any changes to scenarios created via Scenario Builder version 1.0. Updating any of your content will require you to convert it to version 2.0.
Note that converting a scenario creates an independent copy and does not alter the original experience, so the experiences you shared will not be affected. - Existing scenarios created via Scenario Builder version 1.0 will remain available for viewing. There will be no changes to how existing scenarios are displayed to your viewers.
- Scenarios created using Scenario Builder version 1.0 will continue to collect engagement data, and you will be able to review it as needed.
