Summary: To upload Insta360 360° images or videos to ThingLink, first export them from the Insta360 mobile app. Open the file in the app, tap Share, select Panoramic Photo or Panoramic Video, then tap Save to album. You can then upload the saved JPG or MP4 file to your ThingLink account through a browser or the ThingLink mobile app.
Insta360 cameras use proprietary file formats, such as .insp and .insv, which are not compatible with ThingLink. Before uploading the files, you need to export them as JPG images or MP4 videos using the Insta360 mobile app or the Insta360 Studio desktop app.
Exporting via the Insta360 mobile app
Open the app and connect your camera to your phone. Go to Album → Camera and open the file you want to export. Tap the Share button, select Panoramic Photo or Panoramic Video, then tap Save to album:
After that, upload the saved file to your ThingLink account through a browser or the ThingLink mobile app.
You can also export images in bulk by selecting multiple images on the Album screen. Please note that bulk export does not work for videos.
Converting 360° videos via the Insta360 Studio desktop app
You can also transfer the files to your computer and export them using the Insta360 Studio desktop app.
- Transfer the file to your computer
- Double-click the file to open it in Insta360 Studio. If it does not open automatically, right-click the file, select Open with, and choose Insta360 Studio.
- Click the Export button and use the following settings::
- Local Export
- Export as: 360 video
- Resolution: 3840 × 1920. This is the maximum resolution ThingLink currently supports for 360° videos. If your video was shot in a lower resolution, use any resolution with a 2:1 aspect ratio.
- Bitrate: adjust the bitrate so that the file size is under 2GB
- Click Start Export
- Upload the exported MP4 file to ThingLink
Common issues
Make sure to use the full 360° / panoramic mode
Make sure you export the full 360° image or video, not a reframed, flat, or “little planet” version. The exported file may look stretched or flat when viewed in your phone’s gallery, but this is normal. Once uploaded to a platform that supports 360° media, it should display as an interactive 360° image or video.
Working with .insv videos with 2 files
Some Insta360 cameras save one 360° video as two .insv files. Keep both files in the same folder and do not rename them, as Insta360 Studio needs both files to recognize and export the full 360° video. You only need to open or import one of the .insv files in Insta360 Studio; the app will automatically look for the matching file. If one file is missing or renamed, the video may not import correctly. After exporting, upload the MP4 file to ThingLink, not the original .insv or .lrv files.
